閉会式では選手の行進と、北京への五輪旗引き継ぎが行われた。北京では２０２２年冬季五輪が開かれる。
平昌五輪は２月９日〜２５日にかけて開催された。非公式の国別メダル記録ではノルウェーが１４個の金、１４個の銀、１１個の銅メダルの計２９個を獲得して勝利。また、ノルウェーは１度の冬季五輪で獲得したメダル数で記録を更新した。
ロシアからのアスリートは平昌五輪で１７個のメダル（金２、銀６、銅９）を獲得。日本は総メダル数で１１番目の１３個（金４、銀５、銅５）となった。
