エジプト政府は１５日、考古学者らがカイロ郊外のネクロポリス、サッカラの周辺で、損傷を受けていない４４００年前の墓を発見したと発表した。この墓は、古王国第５王朝の３人目の王だったネフェリルカラーによる統治時代のもの。

墓に埋葬されていた人物は生前、神官であり王宮の監督官でもあった。墓の中からは４５体の彫像が見つかった。考古学者らは、この墓を既に１１月に発見していたが、墓の中に入るためには時間が必要だった。

発掘作業は今後継続されるが、墓を内部から見た様子については、既に現在、見ることができる。
