人間の遺骨の他に、ラマの子供の骨格も見つかっている。
考古学者らの説明によれば、大量の生贄がなされたのは６００年以上前。太平洋の一部の海面温度が摂氏０．５度という異常な上昇を見せるエルニーニョ現象を含む、破壊的な豪雨や洪水といった自然の大変動を予防するため、儀式の際に行われたという。
