ニュースサイト「アル・バワバ」は、「頭蓋骨の予備的な調査の結果、石棺内に葬られた人々が軍人だった公算が大きいことが示された。頭蓋骨の一つには刀剣による損傷がはっきりと認められ、この時の刀剣が会戦でのこの人物の死につながった」とのワジリ委員長の言葉を引用している。
前日には、エジプト考古省の代表者らが、石棺の密閉を解き、重さ9トンの蓋を持ち上げる作業を実施。20日には、花崗岩で作られた石棺の下の部分を地中から持ち上げる作業が予定されている。石棺の総重量は25~30トンに上る。
ワジリ委員長はまた、石棺内で発見されたミイラについて、特有の銘文が石棺に書かれておらず、被葬者らの名前を記した特殊なプレートが欠如していることを理由に、何らかの王族のものでは恐らくないと明らかにした。
