大雨と強風により、水位が１．５６メートル上昇し、１９７９年１２月以来の数値を記録した。ＣＮＮによると、ベネチアで記録的な洪水が発生したのは１９６６年１１月で、当時、水位は１．９４メートル上昇した。
イタリアの別の地域では悪天候により数十万世帯が停電した。ローマでは学校が休校になり、ジェノヴァでは鉄道の運行に問題が生じた。
当局の発表によると、7人が死亡、数十人が負傷、1人が行方不明となっている。
ベネチアでは定期的に洪水が発生しているが、水位が１．１メートルを超えることは年に数回しかない（その際、歴史的地区の約１２％が冠水する）。ＣＮＮによると、最近ベネチアでは大きな洪水が発生する回数が増えた。その原因の一つは、地球規模の気候変動だと考えられているという。
