1940年、デンマークのコペンハーゲン生まれ。1960年代、ジャン＝リュック・ゴダール監督の『小さな兵隊』、『女は女である』、『アルファヴィル』『気狂いピエロ』などに主演。1961年の『女は女である』はベルリン国際映画祭で女優賞を受賞した。
