リストには、シリア、北朝鮮、ソマリア、パプアニューギニアの都市の他に、ウクライナの首都キエフや英国のリゾート地スケグナスが入った。ザ・サンが報じた。
なおDestination Tipsが発表したリストは、誰よりも英国人の気分を害するものとなった。スケグナスのディック・エジントン市長は、「根拠がなく、侮辱的な」記事だとコメントした。
Destination Tipsは、かつて海岸リゾートと考えられていたスケグナスは今、「荒廃した遊園地と値段が異常に水増しされたごみの山だ」と指摘した。
なおスケグナスの他に旅行しないほうがいい都市リストに入ったのは以下の都市-
- ウクライナのキエフ（２０１４年の反政府抗議デモにより部分的に破壊されている）
- ハイチのポルトープランス（２０１０年の地震からまだ復興していない）
- シリアのダマスカス（自爆テロが頻繁に起こっている）
- ソマリアのモガディシュ（アフリカで最も危険な都市）
- 北朝鮮の平壌（余計な質問をしない習慣になっている）
- メキシコのシウダー・フアレス（誘拐が頻発している）
- コロンビアのボゴタ（麻薬戦争が続いている）
- バングラデシュのダッカ（世界で最も汚い都市の一つ）
- パプアニューギニアのポートモレスビー（略奪や暴行が毎日発生している）
