先に目撃者らは、ワゴン車に３人の男が乗っていたと伝えたが、ロンドン警視庁は、他の容疑者はいないと発表した。
深夜の祈りを終えてモスクから信者が出てきた時、１人の男性が倒れ、意識を失い、この男性の周りに人々が集まった。その時、ワゴン車が猛スピードで群衆に突っ込んだ。
目撃者らによると、運転していた男は、酔っぱらっていたり、健康に問題があるようには見えなかったという。また男は「イスラム教徒全員を殺す」つもりだということを叫んだという。
事件では１人が死亡、１０人が負傷し、うち８人が病院に搬送された。
英国のメイ首相は、警察がテロの可能性があると見て捜査していることを明らかにした。メイ首相は午前中に緊急事態対策委員会（COBRA）の会合を開く意向。

６月３日、ロンドン中心部の橋でワゴン車が猛スピードで歩道に乗り上げ、数人の通行人をはねた。 その後ワゴン車はロンドン橋を通過して橋の近くの市場「バラマーケット」で停車、ワゴン車から出てきた男らが歩行者らをナイフで襲った。
５月２２日夜、英スタジアム「マンチェスター・アリーナ」で爆発があった。
米歌手アリアナ・グランデさんのコンサートが終わり、観客が出口に向かっていた時、建物内のロビーで爆発が起き、２０人以上が死亡した。この爆発は、５６人が死亡した２００５年７月にロンドン中心部で起きた事件以来の、英国における最大の攻撃となった。
英国では３月２２日にもテロがあった。ロンドン中心部のウェストミンスター橋で、ハリド・マス―ル容疑者が車で通行人に突っ込んだ後、警官を襲い、警察官によって射殺された。容疑者を含む６人が死亡した。
軍事アナリストらは、欧州を脅かすテロの波についてすでに警告していた。これは西側諸国の有志連合が、テロ組織「ダーイシュ（IS、イスラム国）」の所謂「首都」であるイラク北部モスルやシリア北部ラッカに対する攻撃を展開、成功させているため、戦闘員らはベルギー、ドイツ、フランス、英国などの祖国へ逃げ出すことを余儀なくされていることと関係している。
インディペンデント紙が政府の情報を引用して伝えたところによると、「ダーイシュ」の部隊では約８００人の英国人が戦い、うち約半数が２０１７年４月までに英国へ戻ったが、逮捕されたのはわずか１４人となっている。
